The Museum

Swiss Heritage Museum was added to Swiss Heritage Village in early 2002 before the Berne Sesquicentennial celebration. The Berne Cheese Factory had been purchased in the late 1990s and it provided the space needed to display some of the many artifacts given to Swiss Heritage Village.

Our indoor museum, newly renovated, depicts the cultural heritage of Berne and southern Adams county through its valuable artifacts and displays. Swiss Heritage Village would like to thank major donors, including the First Bank of Berne and Smith Brothers Furniture, for funding the much-needed project, and Limberlost Construction, Cardinal Electric, Don Myers Plumbing, Heating, & Cooling, and Amstutz Construction for their excellent work in renovating the museum. Special thanks also to the many Swiss Heritage volunteers, led by Ernie Steiner and Gretchen Lehman, for their dedicated efforts to complete the project and minimize the total cost.

Our artifact collection exists to preserve important documentary evidence and to provide tools for the interpretation of the Swiss Heritage story. Swiss Heritage continues to accept artifacts to enhance our museum displays, however they must relate to the history of the Swiss families and other founders of our community.
